Putting Your Best Foot Forward:
  • Creating Attractive Exhibits on a Budget
  • The Basics of a Good Web Page

Purpose
Small museums, historical organizations, and libraries with local history collections face many challenges in their mission of sharing local history with their communities. One common challenge is the limited budgets many groups have. This practical workshop is designed to help local historical societies and libraries learn how to create attractive exhibits on a budget. During the hands-on portion of the workshop, participants will have a chance to practice important exhibit-building skills, such as making labels, creating a book mount, and more. Because the web plays an important role today in explaining an organization’s mission and in attracting visitors, this workshop also focuses on the basics of a good web page design as well as ways to make your web page comply with the American with Disabilities Act. Note: Both presenters welcome your questions or suggestions for topics you’d like to have covered, if possible. Please email your ideas to Laura Ketcham at Laura.Ketcham@ncmail.net, and she will convey them to the presenters.

Who Should Attend
Professional librarians, support staff, library volunteers, members of historical societies and workers in other local cultural repositories will benefit from this workshop.

Sponsored by the Federation of North Carolina Historical Societies and North Carolina ECHO, Exploring Cultural Heritage Online.
